Problem: Slow pages when viewing in a browser
A common issue in website development is the weight of pages and images, which can get out of hand very easily.Â
Pages that have large image files or are insufficiently compressed take a long time to load when viewed in a browser, and this causes inconveniences for the website visitors and may discourage some from continuing their visit on the website.Â
Solution:Â
-Â Use the 'Page Weight' tool in Web Creator ('Tools menu' )Â
Check the weight of your pages while editing in Web Creator, and make any changes to the contents or structure of your pages if you find that a page is too heavy.Â
You may show some information only when loading the page, and structure the rest with event-action so that not all the page loads at the same time for instance.Â
- Make your images 'Web-friendly' by lowering their resolution:Â
When inserting images, use lower resolution images or use the compression setting in Web Creator to lower the weight of the image. You can compress your images yourself with any image editing tool.Â
This is especially important for personal images uploaded directly from your camera, which can weigh sometimes several Mb for one single image. This kind of size is only useful for printing material and is excessive for the web. Images are rarely opened full screen on galleries on website, and even for a full-size image on a large screen, the image size can be compressed to 100-200k with no perceptible loss of quality for the viewer.Â
- Use the project compression property ('Tools' menu in Web Creator / 'Options'):Â
By default, the compression is at the lowest level. Set the compression at a higher level to reduce the size of the generated images and files of your project. The compression will result in a loss of graphic resolution, but it is not detectable until a fairly high level. Use the highest compression possible which doesn't affect the graphic quality of your site in a significative way.Â
